Alex Rodriguez may go down as one of the best baseball players of all time, but his venture into landlording may not be as successful. Rodriguez is the founder of Newport Property Ventures, which owns 15 rental properties in the Tampa, Florida area.
Tenants in one of the properties are claiming the property has "slum-like" conditions. They say that there are rats, roaches and repairs that have not been addressed for months. The city of Tampa has been called to determine if the property does indeed have code violations.
Landlords have certain obligations under the landlord-tenant act. One of these obligations involves maintaining the building and adhering to all building and safety codes.
